Adapted beaches for disabled people. A day out on the beach is such a universal pleasure that it is a shame, if not a disgrace, that up until relatively recently it was all but impossible for disabled people to really enjoy the experience. Thankfully, in recent years and decades as city authorities have come under pressure to ensure that beaches are made open to all citizens and tourists it has spurred anexplosion in aquatic and beach-going aids and supports meaning that beaches have become far more inclusive places than they used to be. These facilities are widely available on the more popular beaches around Spain, so this list of the Costa Blanca´s best beaches for the disabled is by no means exhaustive.
Playa del Arenal – Calpe
Calpe, this beach is one of Alicante´s busiest, with 1500 meters of fine golden sand. Bathers of all capacities can enjoy this beach due to the low swell of its turquoise waters. The beach is adapted for disabled people by providing the following services: parking, buoys and nets, support staff, accessible bathroom, gangways, amphibious chairs and an umbrellas area.
Playa de Levante – Benidorm
Benidorm´s main beach is a magnet for tourists during the high season and serves the local population all year round. With an eye to inclusivity and making sure that everyone feels equally welcome on its most famous beach the town authorities have installed a floating platform with sunscreen awning and hand-rail supports, offering enhanced security and stability to bathers.
Playa del Postiguet – Alicante
Postiguet Beach, one of Alicante´s most central is also one its best equipped for accommodating people with reduced mobility and other disabilities. The facilities at this beach include life buoys and netting, amphibious crutches and chairs, and ramps and hand rails leading down to the beach. During the summer months there is also a swimming support service offered by the lifeguards.

Levante Beach in Santa Pola, like its namesake to the north in Benidorm, prides itself on providing the most inclusive facilities available to ensure that everyone who visits can get the most out of their day on the beach. As well as all the usual amenities such as wooden gangways allowing wheelchair access to the sea, amphibious chairs and crutches, and accessible dressing rooms and bathrooms, Levante Beach also has NOVAF machines which are beach wheelchairs specially adapted for moving across the sand.
Santa Pola Accesible Beaches
Following Levante Beach´s, Santa Pola City Council has announced its intention to install a floating platform for people with reduced mobility at Gran Playa beach and it has also reserved an area exclusively for people with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women. The beach´s sports facilities have also been adapted to allow for wheelchair access.
