A town that offers multiple options for those looking for nature, beaches, good weather, Mediterranean gastronomy\u2026 and a lifestyle that prioritises tranquillity and enjoyment. In this post we tell you what to see in Fuengirola<\/strong>, a corner of the Spanish coast that you will definitely want to return to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beaches in Fuengirola<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the main attractions of Fuengirola is undoubtedly its beaches, which stretch along 8 kilometres of sandy beaches in the urban area alone.<\/strong> In the summer months, Spanish and foreign visitors come to Fuengirola to enjoy its calm and clean waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the beaches of Fuengirola are designed so that you have all the comforts at your fingertips. With umbrellas, sun loungers, shaded areas and a variety of shops on the other side of the promenade where you can buy everything you need for a day at the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los Boliches Beach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Los Boliches beach is a beach of golden sand and calm waters, ideal for families with children. With more than 2 kilometres long, it stands out for the variety of services it offers and for its accessibility for people with reduced mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has the Blue Flag<\/a> award<\/strong> thanks to its cleanliness and the quality of its waters, which also have a very moderate swell throughout the year. We love to stroll along its shore in spring and autumn, when there are fewer visitors and the weather is still good enough to enjoy it. Castle Beach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The eight hundred metre long Playa del Castillo or Playa del Ejido is located around Sohail Castle and is noted for its dark sand and very calm waters. Dogs are allowed, there is a wide range of water sports and facilities<\/strong> such as zip wires and trampolines, making it a great place to visit with family or friends. It also has green areas next to the river, ideal for a relaxing time, where you will also find some little boats that can be used for barbecues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Culture and history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like many of the towns on the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola also has a rich history and traditions that look towards the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sohail Castle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the outskirts of the town is Sohail Castle, Fuengirola’s most famous building. This 10th century Moorish castle<\/strong>, which crowns the town from a hill on the banks of the river Fuengirola, served as a defence for the area in ancient times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The views of the town and the bay from Sohail Castle are breathtaking, and in summer music festivals and plays are often held in its gardens. The visit is free, so don’t miss it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Old town of Fuengirola<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Although Fuengirola does not have an old town as such as other towns on the Costa del Sol, a stroll through the old town is just as welcoming. The narrow streets, squares, bars and restaurants <\/strong>create an atmosphere conducive to enjoyment and relaxation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heart of the town is in the Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n, where the Town Hall is located, and offers other interesting places such as the Museum of History of Fuengirola and the Plaza de los Chinorros. In addition, the old town of Fuengirola is closed to traffic, so the best thing to do is to explore it on foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local markets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If there is one place where you can feel the tradition and customs of a town, it is at its markets. Fuengirola has traditional markets<\/strong> on Tuesdays (the biggest in Andaluc\u00eda!) and Sundays, and on Saturdays you can visit a flea market for second-hand goods.
