Fuengirola is a beautiful coastal town in the province of Málaga and one of the most popular destinations for tourists, as it has some of the best infrastructures on the Costa del Sol. It is also a fantastic place to travel with the family thanks to its wide, fine sandy beaches that stretch along a seven-kilometre coastline. For the youngest members of the family, there is also a zoo, a mini amusement park and a water park.
Whether you are planning to spend your holidays, to set up a second home or to move to this beautiful coastal town, Fuengirola is the perfect place to benefit from all the necessary services without the hustle and bustle of a big city. In this post we are going to talk about the best residential areas to live in Fuengirola. Our selection is based on aspects such as transport connections, tourist attractions and the range of shops and services on offer.
Centre
The centre of Fuengirola is undoubtedly one of the best areas to live in. This is the heart of town, as well as one of the most beautiful and attractive places in the area. The Plaza de la Constitución square stands out in the town centre. This is one of the most emblematic places in Fuengirola, where the monument erected, the centenary ficus tree known as Árbol de las Pelotillas, and the church of the Virgen del Rosario stand out. All the social activities of Fuengirola revolve around the Plaza de la Constitución.
Surrounded by charming pedestrian streets, you can find a large number of restaurants and terraces that are grouped in the area known as Calle del Hambre (Hunger Street). There is also a wide range of shops, boutiques, supermarkets, etc. Another great advantage is that it is a stone’s throw from the seafront promenade, just ten minutes walk from the beaches and the marina. The promenade is the longest on the Costa del Sol, seven kilometres long, and is surrounded by beach bars, snack bars and restaurants where you can sample the excellent gastronomy. Furthermore, the centre is very close to the local train station, which connects Fuengirola with Málaga and Torremolinos, and is also very well connected by bus.

Los Boliches
Another of the best places to live in Fuengirola is Los Boliches, located in the northeast of town. This is the port area as it is built around the old port. Originally, Boliches was a hamlet that ended up forming part of Fuengirola due to urban growth, so you could say that Boliches is a fishing village with a port inside the town. The narrow streets and quaint little houses are one of its main charms, so typical of a fisherman’s neighbourhood. It is a very lively and busy area, with countless restaurants, bars and shops.
It is also right next to one of the best beaches in Fuengirola, Los Boliches beach, a wonderful stretch of fine, dark sand that has been awarded with the Blue Flag and the Q for tourist quality. In addition to its traditional fishermen’s cottages, this neighbourhood also has newly built houses. It is also very well connected with Málaga, as it has its own Renfe train station and an intercity bus stop.
Parque Miramar
In the western area of Fuengirola we find another of the best neighbourhoods to live in. This is the area known as Parque Miramar and Playa del Castillo. It is precisely in this area that the well-known Sohail Castle is located, one of the most visited tourist attractions. It is an imposing fortification with towers from which you can contemplate the most fascinating views of the beach, the mouth of the river Fuengirola and the town as a whole. Very close to the castle is also the Miramar shopping centre, which is the largest in Fuengirola. Parque Miramar also stands out for its strategic location, as it is quite close to the centre and the popular El Castillo beach, which has also been awarded the Blue Flag and the Q for tourist quality. Parque Miramar also has newly built housing, with good services and good transport connections.
