Although it is well known by tourists and locals alike, Mojácar, on the Costa de Almería, maintains a relaxed and natural atmosphere that makes it special. Its beaches are particularly appreciated, spread over 17 kilometres of coastline that gently undulates along the Mediterranean shore and gives way to coves and sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. There are beaches that are accessible, comfortable and suitable for all the family, and others hidden in cliffs that conceal true paradises. Read on to discover the best beaches in Mojácar and find your favourite – you’ll never want to leave!
The best beaches in Mojácar
Among the best beaches in Mojácar we can find places for all tastes. These are our favourites. Now, it’s up to you to choose.
Cantal Beach
With almost 3 kilometres long and very calm waters that make it ideal for any visitor, the Cantal beach is one of the most popular among locals and tourists. Especially for young people, who spend whole days on this beach enjoying not only the sea and the sun, but also the beach bars, the music and the social atmosphere.
Rumina Beach
It is well worth a 6 kilometre drive from the centre of Mojácar to reach Rumina, an unspoilt and quiet beach where you are guaranteed to disconnect and enjoy nature. Few people visit this beach, even in the busiest months of the summer, and those who enjoy its waters tend to be, above all, locals. It also has a small beach bar where you can refresh yourself and admire the surroundings.
Sombrerico Beach
Also on the outskirts of the city is the beach of Sombrerico, which forms part of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park and is a paradigmatic example of the most impressive Almeria landscape. It is an unspoilt and specially protected beach or cove that takes its name from the rock formation that characterises it. And filming has taken place here, such as that of Treasure Island, with Orson Welles and Curro Jiménez. It is accessible by car (a plus), and some people visit it by mountain bike.

Macenas Beach
Macenas beach is just a short distance from Mojácar’s most frequented beaches, and is particularly recognisable by the large watchtower that crowns it, the Castillo de Macenas. Surrounded by steep cliffs and areas of impressive volcanic formations, it undoubtedly offers unrivalled views and crystal clear waters. For this reason it is highly valued by scuba divers and snorkellers. Pets and naturists are also allowed on the beach.
Lance Nuevo Beach
When the coast of Almeria still lived only from fishing, small boats would arrive at Lance Nuevo beach to protect themselves from the waves when they were too intense. Today, it is a quiet and unfrequented beach that is no longer frequented by fishing boats, but by scooters, kayaks or paddle surf boards. It is a wide and beautiful beach, which was redesigned with the extension of the Paseo Mediterráneo in 2016.
In short, Mojácar is one of the most desirable destinations on the Costa de Almería for the variety of its beaches. Can you imagine living in a place like this?
